Canada Small Business Financing Program (CSBF)

The Government of Canada offers a range of services to assist small businesses, including direct financing.

The Canada Small Business Financing (CSBF) program is available to assist small businesses.  

The (CSBF) program is administered through Canada Business at www.canadabusiness.gc.ca  The Canada Business site contains information for small businesses in Canada, with a directory of information on federal, provincial and muncipal governent services, business information guides, programs and regulations.

Industry Canada also delivers the Canada Small Business Financing (CSBF) program to help small businesses obtain loans of up to $500,000  and it can be used for the establishment, expansion and improvement of small businesses. Of the $500,000 total, no more than $350,000 can be for purchases other than real property. For example, the $350,000 can be used to finance leasehold improvements, equipment and the registration fee.

To apply a small business must present their business proposal directly to the lender of their choice. There are over 1,300 eligible lenders, including all major chartered banks and credit unions.

The financial institute is responsible for meeting with the entrepreneurs, reviewing the business plans and making all of the decisions regarding the loans.
