Karen used to work at a chip stand in the summer, so she already had good customer service skills. In addition to these, she had to develop marketing, bookkeeping, and inventorymanagement skills in order to run her own confectionary stand at a local park and beachfront.
Karen rented a building from the town and was open seven days a week selling ice cream, hamburgers, drinks and sandwiches to a hungry and appreciative clientele.
The hours were long and the work demanding, but Karen had a great summer: “I can’t think of a better way to spend my summer than being my own boss and being able to work in a beach and park. I hope to be back here again next year and make more money!”
